Meet Tim Lambertson, 2nd-Year Master Student

timI'm a second year master’s student in Counseling and Educational Development at UNCG, and a Student Intern at New Life Counseling Center, PLLC, a private group practice in Winston Salem, NC, offering individual, group, couples and family counseling, and serving a wide variety of clients from diverse backgrounds. Our offices are conveniently located, have plenty of free parking and are fully handicapped accessible. The professional building has many different types of businesses, so your confidentiality and anonymity is enhanced. Our office hours are 9-6 Monday through Fridays. Some evening hours are available by prior arrangement. Telehealth services are also available for your convenience.

I am excited to be interning with New Life Counseling Center, PLLC. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts, earning my Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2001. Before returning to school and entering the graduate program for a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNC Greensboro, I had a twenty-year professional and entrepreneurial career working in the music and entertainment industry, followed by co-founding my marketing agency and venture capital fund. I take with me into the counseling profession a deep level of empathy and understanding about the everyday struggles we face as human beings and use that experiential knowledge to help guide clients in and out of sessions.

My role as a counselor is to help provide the tools, education, and inspiration necessary for clients to grow and feel empowered to live their lives authentically. Over the last fifteen years I have been studying and training in mindfulness based therapeutic techniques. This unique skill set has proven to be extraordinarily valuable for both myself and clients, seamlessly weaving into evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), for which I have been studying and leading skills groups for the last several semesters. In addition to DBT, I rely on well researched and proven therapies such as Cognitive therapies, Multicultural therapies, and Systems approaches, allowing for clients to use their strengths to empower, self-actualize, and heal. I approach all counseling relationships with open-mindedness, patience, and empathy, and I am excited to work with individuals, couples, and families.

I lead 2 DBT Skills Training Groups in the evenings, one for teens (Monday night) and one for adults (Tuesday night). Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training has extensive research to support it's effectiveness in reducing self-harm, suicidal thoughts, eating disordered behaviors and increasing the client's ability to better regulate their emotional responses to everyday life situations. I've had extensive training in DBT and have excellent supervision support in this area. Learn more about these 2 groups.

I currently reside in Greensboro where I live with my wife of 15 years and our giant dog Gus.
